SILO is the architecture, research, and design practice of Marc Manack and Frank Jacobus. We operate out of Charlotte North Carolina, working on residential and institutional projects across the United States, completing projects for a variety of clients and communities, much of which has been recognized for its design and execution.
SILO’s work has been featured by the Wall Street Journal, Architect, the Architect's Newspaper, Wallpaper, Slate, Dwell, and Fast Company among many others. SILO has been recognized with numerous publications, exhibitions, and design awards including as an Emerging Voice by The Architectural League of New York (2016), a Next Progessive in Architect Magazine (2018), and AN Interior Top 50 American Architects by the Architect’s Newspaper (2021). In 2022, SILO was chosen by the Walton Family Foundation for inclusion in its Design Excellence Program.
Marc Manack, AIA is founding Principal of SILO and Associate Professor in the University of North Carolina at Charlotte School of Architecture. Marc taught previously at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas, Kent State University's College of Architecture and Environmental Design, and Ohio State University’s Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture from where he is also a graduate. He is co-editor of the book Out of Scale (ORO).
Frank Jacobus, AIA is Principal of SILO, and is incoming Professor, Department Head of Architecture, and Chair of Integrative Design in the Stuckeman School at Penn State University. He recently served as Associate Professor and Associate Department Head in the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas where he was 21st Century Chair of Building Technologies.Frank taught previously at the University of Idaho. He has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Cooper Union and an MArch II from the University of Texas. Frank is author of Archigraphic: An Infographic Look at Architecture (Laurence King); The Visual Biography of Color (ORO); The Making of Things: Modeling Processes and Effects in Architecture (Routledge); Architectonics and Parametric Thinking (Routledge); “Artificial.Intelligent.Architecture” (ORO, forthcoming)
